Read on for details about the work.

HOW TO DIE: a performing body confronts all-American despair. Extreme bodies. Cross-disciplinary collaboration. Nudity & Drag. Digital & acoustic sound. Political contexts get remixed. Ritual gets reconfigured. The dead continue to haunt. The creative citizen is a social intervention. part one: HOMELESS USA is a poignant performance poem about a homeless man¹s suicide. part two: AMERICAN TWEAKER is a self-collapsing spectacle about crystal meth, barebacking, and AIDS. Additional texts by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler (Homeless USA) and queer literati gem Kirk Read (American Tweaker). Note: Recommended for adult viewing. Children and youth especially discouraged from viewing part two. HOW TO DIE is a performance about USA made in France with French tax money, but of course I made it for you, the people in & around San Francisco who risk their time and money on experimental political sexual spiritual art. I've received no local funding for two years so this production is entirely thanks to Krissy Keefer and Dance Mission's Manifestival.

What is the show about? Difficult to say in words. The political themes are homelessness and unprotected, meth-influenced gay sex. But these are simply the surface signs of a deeper unrest, a darker despair, and that's what the show tries to understand... the psychic body and community as influenced by globalized capital, techno speed, war and torture in our name... This isn't a circus although my body will do a few things that only a circus-influenced body artist could imagine or sustain. And this isn't a dance piece except in France where no one expects choreographers or dancers to do anything other than conceptual experimentation. It is intimate, spectacular performance art, rich in body, music, and image. And it features one of my all-time favorite collaborators, Jules Beckman and my lovepartner Seth Eisen aka Butterskotch playing the ghost of discos past, based on Sylvester.
